Health & Wellness

The MAV Health and Wellness Committee provides community awareness about mental and emotional health by conducting seminars and workshops on a regular basis. Our goal is to minimize the stigma of mental illness within the Muslim community, with the Committee’s ultimate goal being the establishment of a free health clinic to serve the needs of local uninsured and/or underserved populations.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the committee provided constant updates on infection statistics in our community along with raising awareness of the importance of public health and safety and following the guidelines provided by CDC and Virginia Department of Health.

The committee has arranged trainings on mental health first aid and suicide prevention  as an outreach effort. We also arrange health fairs biannually, once in spring and once in autumn, with the goal of providing health education on relevant topics and basic health screenings for community members. Webinars on various relevant mental health topics are held on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 6:30 P.M. For individuals interested in contributing to our outreach efforts via volunteering opportunities, please reach out to health-wellness@daralnoor.org.
